Meet Savior El Mundo of New York
For a refreshing update on Jackson Pollack type of art take a strong look at Savior El Mundoís colorful and uplifting paintings. Savior says, “I was born in Harlem, New York, dancing hip hop and break dance in the streets of the upper west side and to escape involvement in the violence of New York, I was recruited to become a dancer at the early age of fifteen.” This was good for him because what followed was the beginning of his calling in the arts. He enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, where he began classes in art and design. Throughout this time, he continued his dancing career, which included music videos for popular hip hop artists, concerts, and dance commercials, and eventually became a choreographer for music artists. In 2002, along with the arts, dance, and choreography, Saviorís natural ability for creating and directing led him to try his hand at films from a friendís suggestion, who informed him that the arts, plus Saviorís visions and leadership, were necessary qualities in becoming a filmmaker. His shorts were accepted to the New York film festival, Tribeca film festival, and other film festivals, and his short, “Whatís for Breakfast?” has sold to HBO Films. In the spring of 2007, Saviorís father passed away. Leaving everyone and everything behind for more than a month, he locked himself into his apartment and expressed onto the several canvases which his girlfriend had previously purchased for him for emotional expression; it was his time for expression. After his temporary hibernation, friends and family commented that he should display his works of art: profoundly moving compositions that were infused with pervasive color and gloss, resulting in incomparable vibrancy and spontaneity. Through layering up to ten compositions upon any given canvas, Saviorís art achieved a textural complexity which took time to decipher as it gripped his viewers instantaneously. Behind the dense web of poured and splattered lines this Cherokee Indian/Puerto Rican artist unraveled an emotional spindle as dense as his own heritage and private thoughts. His process brings out strength and boldness into the scribbles, the lines, the background color, and the force of the paint splatters. He transfers the angst of his fatherís death and his unresolved thoughts into deeply spiritual works which are bold and self confident, energetic to the point of being riveting. http://www.zhibit.org/artist/saviorelmundo email saviorelmundo@hotmail.com or his mailing address is Savior El Mundo 589 Amsterdam Avenue #17B, New York, NY 10024
