Arlene is really having a delightful time with learning this fusing and slumping of glass. There is quite a bit to it and Joe and Kath are grand about letting herpick their brain about it, plus what she has read. She finally was able to get a replacement thermocouple probe for her pyrometer and she is back in business with my experiments.
This one is called " tulips " using 2 layers of glass and 2 different kinds of Frits.
"tulip1"
This one is called " starfish " using 3 layers of glass. I will be slumping this one into a plate when I get some free time.
"starfish"
Each one takes about 16 hours from start to finish.

Carl created this jewelry box from a design created by Arlene.

October 1, 2007 We now carry Dichronic Bevels.
Here is Carl's newest work of art. "Snow Flake III©" is a 16" in diameter original work of art. The design was created by award winning artist Carl Correll who uses Dichroic Bevels and colored glass jewels . Dichroic Bevels are bevels with an iridescent coating that changes colour when viewed from different angles. ‘This is seen as one of the most exciting new decorative glass products to be introduced in a long while.’
Dichroic is a word used to describe certain rare crystals which have this chameleon-like ability. When fused onto glass bevels the effect is not only stunning, but also completely bewitching, as the shimmering colors appear to change as the viewer shifts position or passes by. As the sun hits it or as you move and view this piece the purple bevels are constantly changing from purple to blue to mauve to pink and the yellow bevels are changing from yellow to orange to magenta. This is an exciting art piece and can be hung in a window or hung from the ceiling where it will move in the wind. This is truly a "one of a kind" work of art.

Plus this 22" x 32" restored antique window with the same Dichroic bevels.

Teresa Wilcox of Upton, KY came into Avalon Stained Glass Studio to buy a wedding present for her son’s upcoming wedding. The piece she chose would cost $500.00. However Carl Correll, Stained Glass Master at Avalon Stained Glass School, explained that she could easily make the same exact piece for only $295.00, plus create an heirloom piece that was signed by her and would probably be more meaningful to her son and his new bride.
With that information in mind, Teresa called 2 days later to registered for the course and 24 hours later, which spanned 3 weeks to fit into her busy schedule here she is with her finished product, a beautiful, traditional stained glass window with an etched insert that says "Jared and Ami, September 2, 2006". Besides finishing her piece of art glass, Teresa is now a Certified Stained Glass Artist.
Teresa says, "I had a wonderful time, Carl was so great making the lessons easy and fun. I will be making other things in stained glass. I am so pleased to have been able to make a wedding present that hopefully my children will always treasure. I would recommend this class to anyone." Teresa graduated July 5, 2006.
