Interested in homeschooling but don't know what to do? Here are some steps to help you get started.

Kids are the most wonderful addition to our lives. Yet there are times when we get swamped under, especially in today society where we think we have to do everything for them and provide them with everything.

Today's child either has every minute filled with some sort of activity or left to his or her own devices to entertain themselves. Usually sitting in front of the TV or perhaps joining a gang or getting into trouble.

Part of today's problem is that children are basically raising children. There is an old saying, "If they knew better they could do better."

I remember some of the best parts of my childhood was just laying out in the grass and looking at the sky, trying to imagine faces or figures in the clouds. It was fun to share that with friends.

Most of those activities are long forgotten between playstation and gameboy.

We talk about quality time. Well, I believe that quantity time is important also. Just being there when you are needed is important.

Teaching a young child to garden along with you, or to make cookies together, or fudge. Those are part of their memories and learning modes.

Making work activities fun is an important thing when teaching young children responsibility.

Dragging children though stores in mid-afternoon is very rough on them. About 2 p.m. kids batteries start to run down. They need a rest or a nap even though they do not want to. One would not treat their automobile battery as I seem some mothers treat their kids when they fail to see the child's "battery" run down.

In the "old days" families sat around the catalog and debated and wished and chose things to order from the major stores. Then they usually wrote the order together and mailed it off. Patiently they waited for the box to arrive. Lots of anticipation and excitement shared.

Well, today, this same thing can happen again. Especially for the household that has a computer. Why drag the kids through the traffic, the checkout lines, the crowded stores when you can shop at home.
