This weekís Kentucky artist is Dru Perry

For seven years Dru Perry of Lexington, KY crafted for two stained glass artists and then decided to design and craft her own art since she loves glass and its refractive quality. Loving the sheen of copper she discovered some wire at a local hardware store and she also discovered how easy it was to bend the wire into desired shapes. It wasnít long before she discovered she could incorporate glass and beadwork into the wire and create incredible 3-D art.

First Dru hand cuts the glass, drills the holes and grinds the edges until smooth. Then she connects them to the copper wire as per the design she has created. She uses mouth blown antique German glass and she incorporates it with silver and copper wire as well as occasionally beadwork and cabochons.

When I met Dru at the Danville 30th Constitution Square Festival this year she was surrounded by her wind sculptures which, in the slight breeze, was crating delicate, tinkling, lovely sounds with the sunlight shining through the glass making her whole booth alive with art!

Many of Druís pieces seem to appear as they are suspended in mid air. Her works of art are not just for inside. They can be hung outside also and they will give your garden a special uplift. Some people put them on patios or porches.
