This weekís artist is Bruce Stam
The children are alive, delightful and the colors are vibrant and flowing giving the children more life, more energy, reflecting the personality of each subject and we are referring to award winning artist Bruce Stam. Bruce says, “. When I was a child my mother enrolled me in adult art classes, why I am not sure, and the teachers never really knew what to do with me, and so I did a lot of Paper Mache’ in the back of the room!” Quite a few years ago Bruce enrolled in a basic drawing class and found that he really enjoyed it. At this same time he started doing the exercises in the “Right Brain/ Left Brain” book, and he found these to be very helpful. Eventually, he enrolled in figure drawing, and he says, “Naturally it was a struggle at first. However, after several years of figure drawing courses and at the same time attending figure drawing sessions I began to improve on my drawing ability. I do believe that it is vital to always be drawing the human figure.” It was at this point in Bruceís life he says he was taking drawing classes solely for the enjoyment. Eventually, he decided to add some color to his life and he enrolled in a beginning watercolor class. Quickly he discovered that his drawing abilities would serve him well and he enjoyed painting. Bruce says, “It was a struggle at first to manage all the details of watercolor and to relax at the same time and enjoy the process. I have been fortunate to have been able to study drawing with Henry Stinson and Jane Lieber-Mays among others, and painting with Ted Nuttall and Alvaro Castagnet. I have attended various colleges and schools studying art.” This writer can attest that all of Bruce Stams hard work and belated art education has paid off. His wonderful portraits are well received and hang in many homes and business. You can check out his art on his website. http://www.portraitwatercolor.com/home His awards include 2008 Presidential Purchase Award, Juried Art Show, Mesa, Arizona Like many artists, Bruce has a home studio which he says, “Is actually it is a bedroom conversion?????????.so, it does not really work as a studio that is open to the public.
