"Life is Tough" by Carol Prittie Herzig

Life Is Tough

by Carol Prittie-Herzig (11-12-04)

Lord- I was surely angry on Tuesday

for after a call to Ann I went on to say

Looks like for her house- there is a sale

and maybe at Skyline a rental avail.

Were it to happen soon

we could get her moved and settled in

Before leaving for Florida

probably at Novembers end.

Enraged my guy at the very thought

Why now? it’s so close and before she’d ought

Ought to have made a decision for this task that be done

has he forgotten we’ve worked on it all sum?

Furniture eliminated

linens, dishes and miscellaneous galore

We handled so much

One might think that she’d owned a store.

From the upstairs

merchandise emptied out and carried down

In the dining room and den

there was stuff all around.

Silverware, cutlery, glassware, pots and pans

candles, baskets, cookbooks- oh man

Up from the cellar lots of tools and storage stuff

those to the garage as we huffed and puffed.

Bit by bit things began to go

A little here, a little there but pretty slow

Would we be ready- was this wise

For the sale date that we’d advertised?

We cleaned the garage and set up tables

All was carried out (by the one most able)

This for convenience of all in one spot

On opening morning the sales were hot.

I arrived early and set out my signs

people arriving long before time

Barely a minute to think of eat

for the cars occasionally lined the street.

This the routine for two long days

plus another weekend no time for play

Not only selling but some moving trips too

Evans Mills, Calcium to mention a few

The den and dining room furniture,

desks, dressers and such

Trunks, bedding, pictures

and of other stuff so much.

We’ve saved enough

to set Ann up comfortably

Still it has to be moved there

I’m willing-is he?

Lots more that I could tell you

of the tasks that have been done

So glad we’re approaching finish

To this end- I’ve got to run.
