"Arlene's Apple I ©" an original gouache watercolor painted on 5" x 7" hand made cotten rag watercolor acid free paper for her "Still Life Series" by award winning Kentucky artist Arlene Wright-Correll. This small miniature is then float mounted on a 7.75" x 11" dark green matting and ready for a top matting and frame. Ms. Wright-Correll says, "In 1999 my late son, Fred and I planted an orchard which included many apple trees and each year since his passing in August 2000 the trees bearing fruit help to keep his memory alive. In August 2008 the pears, plums, peaches and apple trees are loaded and this painting is of one of the apples from the apple orchard."

Arlene says, "I just completed learning, from the master himself, how to do sandblasting art on glass and I tell you I loved it, but my 73+year old hands had a hard time doing it. It was not to bad doing all the steps with the design and the resist and then "weeding" out the pieces I wanted to sandblast, but doing the actual sandblasting in the big machine with my hands inside gloves and looking through a glass covered box was hard to do and sometimes see. I had to take a lot of rests. I will put this in a stained glass piece. Here are two views of it.

Mary Coakley of Magnolia, KY has her grandson, 10 year old Jeremy Mason of Lexington, KY, visiting her for the summer and she and Jeremy took a 3 hour beginner’s stained glass workshop learning all the complete steps of making a stained glass project. They each made a ceiling fan light pull and Jeremy really enjoyed himself as did Grandma Coakley. It was a good learning experience and they not only created a small work of art they created a lifelong family memory!

Arlene keeps experimenting with the big kiln and here is one of her latest pieces. "The Citrus Tree". It is 10.4" x 10.5" and consists of 3 layers of glass. Plus some new stuff she is playing with called "Freeze N Fuse" which is taking powdered ground glass and mixing it with distilled water and chemicals, then pouring it into molds, freezing the molds, then fast tack firing it. This piece will go into a wrought iron stand.

This unique work of art sits in a wrought iron stand bringing the over all height to 18".
