Signed and numbered Lithograph of Herbie Mann by Donna Burgess. Commission by the Nortwest Florida Symphony Orchestra Guild for Music from Mann and more at the Nortwest Florida Symphony Orchestra October 13, 1990.

#76 of 250 Paid $150.00 original. Unframed, Unmatted.

A "Must Have" piece of memrobilia for all for all Jazz or Herbie Mann Fans!

About the artist: Living in Destin Fl, with the colors of a coastal sunset her palette and the white sands and emerald waters her playground, Donna artfully captures the seashore experience.

The artist has observed the masters and studied with the best, but acknowledges that growing up with images created by her talented mother have been her greatest inspiration…one that she has passed along to her own daughters.

A love of the coast translates freely through her color washed interpretations of children enjoying summer, fish leaping from azure waters, pets in play, and cottages styled by memories of a gentle era.

Donna's art is commissioned and collected by Presidents and international corporations. However, it is the individual whose selection makes its way home to remind its owner of warmer, calmer days that Donna considers her most valuable collector.

About the subject: Herbie Mann, credited with being one of the seminal jazz flautists, is probably best known for the musical odyssey that has taken him around the world.

Herbie lost his battle with cancer on July 1, 2003.

Not many musicians can claim to have single-handedly created the style of music for which they are famous. Among the select group who legitimately can is Herbie Mann, a seminal figure in the American jazz scene of the 1960s and '70s. Largely on the strength of his talent for improvisation and willingness to experiment, Mann formulated a jazz style for the flute, raising to the rank of lead an instrument which prior to his arrival had been limited to a minor role in the jazz pantheon. In the process, he was to garner a reputation as one of the most eclectic figures in the music world, readily mixing a wide range of styles from African to Brazilian, from Charlie Parker to disco, to create music that crossed boundaries in every sense of the word. Although his experiments did not always endear him to jazz critics, the result was a musical style that was indisputably his own.

Mann was born Herbert Solomon on April 16, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Harry and Ruth Solomon. Musically inclined from an early age, his first concerts took the form of raucous banging on the kitchen pots and pans. His parents, driven to distraction, decided that young Herbert's energies would be channeled in a more fruitful direction by exposure to popular music; in 1939, his mother took him to see the then-reigning master of swing jazz, clarinetist Benny Goodman. The concert had the desired effect, as Mann, fascinated by the atmosphere and excitement of live performing, left off his drumming and took up the clarinet with enthusiasm.

We have just unearthed in our family store room a bunch of signed and numbered art prints complete with the prices that I paid for them back in 1997. I put them away and the following year had a stroke. As a surviving stroke victim, I want to sell these at any price regardless of what I paid for them. All are sold with no provence and are sold in "as is" condition. All sales are final. Most are in very good, good or mint condition.  All will list the prices I paid for them. However, I want them gone before I am gone. Please don't ask me a lot of questions about research etc. If I had the strength to do it, it would be done.

All are art bargains and will lend grace and beauty to your home.

Kevin Dyer creates wall art in beautiful castpaper sculpture. What is castpaper sculpture? The original design is carved from wax, then a rubber mold is formed, then the cotton pulp is cast and finally when dried, the image in handpainted. Kevin Dyer says" I live for paper casting! I have been a professional artist for over 25 years, working in many mediums. These include print making, painting, sculpture, and paper making. All of which evolved into the masters medium of cast paper, my medium of choice for many years. My original designs are inspired by the spiritual icons of early cultures, such as the Celtic and Native Americans, or the rich metaphors of nature. Meticulously sculpted in wax relief, a permanent negative mold is formed off the wax original. The paper pulp is made by beating cotton and water. The pulp is hand pressed and tooled into the mold and set aside to dry. Later the dried casting is burnished and hand finished with metallic glazes. The limited edition pieces are signed and numbered with editions being 250 or less. Due to the nature of the process, it can take up to 5 years to complete an edition. I work in a spacious studio, overlooking the woods in my home in Marietta, GA. My work is represented in over 50 galleries around the country, on the internet and at the dozen or so fine art and craft shows I attend each year. Hope to see you there!"

What is castpaper sculpture? The original design is carved from wax, then a rubber mold is formed, then the cotton pulp is cast and finally when dried, the image in handpainted. These are hard to see as they are left unpainted. But have raised or embossed impressions that make for nice art. This may or may not be a good artistic find. All are sold with no provence and are sold in "as is" condition. All sales are final. All will list the prices I paid for them. However, I want them gone before I am gone. Please don't ask me a lot of questions about research etc. If I had the strength to do it, it would be done.
