Contemporary Manuscript Illumination

Taught by award winning American artist, Arlene Wright-Correll.

Arlene says, “I was first introduced to the art of Illuminated Letters when I was shown a book titled “The Illuminated Alphabet”. From then on I was hooked and the pleasure  I received from learning this beautiful art form has caused me to develop the following workshop .”

Introductory Class in Manuscript Illumination.

During our class time you will be able to complete two illuminations. We will start with a small 15th century decorated letter and finish with an illuminated miniature approximately 9” x 9” panel. Iconography is a slow and thoughtful process and you will learn how to create your own masterpiece.

You will paint with gouache, lay, burnish and tool gold as well as render figure and garment. You will paint foliage as well as border design.

You will learn what kind of supplies you need to continue on with this wonderful “lost” art.

This is a continuous workshop that consists of ten (10) three (3) hour classes and will be held on a Thursday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm CT at Avalon Stained Glass School & Creativity Center.

Workshop fee is $139.00 plus $39.00 for materials.

Alumni workshop fee is $99.00 plus $39.00 for materials.

We also offer a 5 day workshop which includes Continental Breakfast, lunch, overnight stay for 4 nights and all materials.
