Arlene Wright-Correll says, “I started to paint clowns on china and porcelain and fell in love with clowns. This is a new series I started in July 2007 and they are art works painted in acrylic on the waffled side of Masonite board. Unless stated otherwise they are all 16″ x 10″. There are 3 basic types of clowns. There is the white face clown with his huge nose, pointed or tiny hat and his pom poms. The August Clown always attemps to act and dress pretensiously. His coat is usually too large and his hat or gloves or shoes may be torn or have flopping soles. He takes himself so seriously and then always loses his dignity. Hobo’s and Tramp clowns are the last of the three types of clowns and Charlie Chaplin and Emmet Kelly immortalized these types of clowns. His clothes are shabby and usually a rope holds up his pants, he may have a flower in his buttonhole and while he takes his job very seriously, he always bungles it.”
